Poem of the Week

It is wonderful to see the expanding number of poets and poems gathering at Jingle’s Open House. From around the globe we get to share images, metaphors, stories, shape poems, all speaking in different ways to the same theme.

From the many that speak to love, bonds, and relationships, I have selected Kavita’s “Caressing by” to highlight this week. Read it aloud and enjoy the rich mixture of image and sound. Love comes like wind bearing spring rain, and the verse sings with repeated s’s. The rustle of leaves in the second stanza is captured in the mixing of s’s, l’s, and t’s. The poem works not only through the meaning of its words and the visual quality of its images. It also works through the sound of the words themselves. Read and enjoy:

like zephyrs that spill
moist kisses of sweet Spring
soaked by porous walls
like leaves that rustle
in the midst of amber Fall
tasted by blind eyes

love swims
